Healthy Smiles Overview

Healthy Smiles is the clinic where you will complete your pediatric dentistry rotation. It is located at the Children's Colorado Health Pavilion at 860 North Potomac Circle Aurora, CO 80011. The rotation is five weeks long and will be either from 8am-12pm or 1pm-5pm. You will be excused from most of your classes during your scheduled time and your presence at Healthy Smiles will be mandatory.

 

Preparation

It is helpful to review some of the following information:

  • Primary tooth letters

  • Eruption sequence of both primary and permanent teeth

  • Common radiographs for pediatric patients

  • OHI for kids and their parents

 

During the Rotation

The first day of the rotation will be EPIC orientation and the second day will be a clinical orientation.

Your grade will consist of 2 components: Clinical competencies and the Case Based written exam.

Clinical Competencies should be done during the second and third week of the rotation. You will need to complete:

  1. Preventative Care Competency

  2. Local Anesthesia and Restorative Competency

  3. Sealant Competency

The Case Based written exam is broken in to 7 topic sections with 10 questions about each topic. You must pass each section with a score of 7 or higher. The sections include:

  1. Infant Oral Health

  2. Caries Management

  3. Pediatric Pulp Therapy

  4. Space Management

  5. Special Health Care Needs

  6. Traumatic Dental Injuries

  7. Non-pharmacological Behavior Management
